William O. Powell

William O. Powell, age 85 of Genoa Township passed away Wednesday night, August 9, 2017 at Mayfair Village Nursing Home in Columbus.

He was born on January 17, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio the son of the late Llewelyn and Rosella (Cowan) Powell.

William attended St. Peter’s grade school and graduated from Aquinas College High School in 1950.  He was a Corporal, 19th engineers, 8th Army, 1952-53 serving in Korea.

He married Dorothy Leonard in 1957.

Retired member of Bricklayer Local #55 and worked for OSU physical facilities, west campus for 14 years, before retiring in 1997.

Gardening was his true passion, growing everything from seed.  He loved his tomatoes and grew a small red onion that was so delicious.

He will be missed by his wife Dorothy; sons David and Matthew; daughter Amy Gray and her husband Jeffrey; grandchildren Liam and Wyatt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Roseann Neal.

The family would like to extend a gratitude of thanks to the staff at the Mayfair Village Nursing Home for their wonderful care and concern.

Friends may call on the family on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074.  Funeral services will be held there on Tuesday at 11 AM.  Burial with full military honors will follow at Burnside Cemetery in Genoa Township.
