William H. Fennell III

William H. “Pops” Fennell III, age 90, of Highland Hills Circle, Howard, Ohio passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 at Whispering Hills Care Center in Mount Vernon. He was born on August 3, 1920 in Pleasantville, New Jersey to the late William and Malinda (Casto) Fennell II. William served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1980 after 40 years of employment with the Pennsylvania Railroad. William was an avid hunter and fisherman and was well known in the New Jersey area for his saltwater fishing and raising and training 13-inch beagle dogs. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple, Veteran of Foreign Wars and served as Adjutant for the American Legion in New Jersey.
He is survived by his son, William (Marjorie) Fennell IV of Howard, two grandchildren, Rev. William (Amy) Fennell V and Melissa (Steve) Parmelee, seven great grandchildren, Billy VI, Drew, Chad and Gabe Fennell and Erin, Zac and Jack Parmelee.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Fennell.
A funeral service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held on Thursday at 12 PM at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where friends may call from 10 AM until the time of service. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 2 PM at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey. Pastor Kris Brandenburg, Pastor Steve Schultz and Pastor Chris Tullos will be officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple Church building fund, 21453 Floralwood Drive, Howard, Ohio 43028.
