Walter Brumfield Jr.

Walter Brumfield Jr., age 76, of Marengo, passed away at his home Saturday, May 12, 2018, with his loving family by his side.
On October 30, 1941, Walter was born in Delbarton, West Virginia, a son of the late Walter and Rebecca (Evans) Brumfield Sr. He graduated from Burch High School in Delbarton.
Walter proudly served his county in the U.S. Army. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.
On November 19, 1970, Walter married the love of his life, Billie Jean Justice. They shared 38 years as husband and wife before she preceded him in death on July 11, 2008.
Walter enjoyed cooking and could make anything on the grill. He also liked hopping on the riding mower and taking care of the lawn. He could be stubborn and grouchy at times, liked his alone time, and always enjoyed a good argument with others.
Walter will be dearly missed by two daughters: Patricia Brumfield Persinger of Marengo, Rebecca (Joseph) Brumfield Fields of South Dakota; six grandchildren: Crystal Brumfield, Sara Persinger, Anastasia Brumfield, Odette McKnight, J.R. Persinger, Denver Walter McKnight; one great grandchild, Lincoln Ball, and another on the way; a brother, Wirt (Linda) Brumfield; and three sisters: Brenda (Jerry) Sawyers, Darlene Brumfield, and Pam Hatfield.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three infant children and seven brothers and sisters.
Walter’s family will greet friends from 6 – 7 p.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate his life will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Billy Brumfield officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Marengo Cemetery.
