Virginia Ann (Vipperman) Ward, age 83, of Westfield, passed away Friday evening, September 4, 2020, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

She was born on February 23, 1937, in Delaware, to the late Kyle L. and Stella Mae (Stevens) Vipperman. Virginia graduated from Mount Gilead High School with the class of 1955 and shortly after enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving her country, Virginia worked as a medical assistant in a labor and delivery unit while on base.

On July 21, 1967, Virginia married the love of her life, Donald E. Ward. Together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage.

Being a homemaker, Virginia took great pride in making sure the needs of her family were taken care of. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and even sewed a few shirts and articles of clothing for her family. Virginia also loved to get the family together where she often cooked and baked enough to feed an army. Her chicken and dumplings were truly a family favorite. Christmas time was always extra special, and Virginia would go out of her way to include everyone she could think of for their Christmas parties. Don often wondered if she liked the man in the red suit more than he. When Virginia wasn’t tending to the needs of her family, she could often be found shopping, completing a word search or crossword puzzle, watching an episode of Jeopardy or a soap opera, or running through McDonald’s for her coveted unsweetened iced tea.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Don; children: Paul (Maggie) Ward of Mount Gilead, Tim (Tracy) Ward of Delaware, and Donald M Ward of Westfield; grandchildren: Kevin Ward, Brandi (Aaron) Golden, Merranda (Cody) Deitchel, Chaz (Brittany) Ward, and Kendrea Ward; great grandchildren: Eli Golden, Kole Golden, and Jamison Deitchel; a sister, Linda Vipperman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents: Kyle and Stella Mae; brothers: Dale and Kyle Vipperman; and a sister, Dolores Coots.

Her family will greet friends from 4 to 6 PM, on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel. (67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338) A celebration of her life will follow at 6 PM with Celebrant Galen McLeod officiating.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead are honored to have been chosen to serve Virginia’s family and your condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.SnyderFuneralHomes.com.

  • So very sad for all of Virginia’s family. She was always my favorite baby-sitter when I was little! And in recent years, when I’d see her (usually at the grocery store) she was always so kind and loving. May God bless and comfort all of her family. She was a real sweetheart!!
