Virgil L. Sansom

BELLVILLE: Virgil L. Sansom, age 77, of Bellville passed away Sunday afternoon, March 11, 2012 in Hospice House following an extended illness.
Virgil was born September 13, 1934 in Hewitt, West Virginia the son of Snowden and Artie (Ball) Sansom and graduated from Scott High School in Madison, West Virginia in 1953.
New Years Day 1954 changed Virgil’s life forever. On that day it was on a blind date that he first met Betty Wharton, and just eight months later on August 28, 1954 the two were married.
For 36 years Virgil worked for Empire Detroit retiring in 1992.
Always supporting his family and cheering at sporting events, Virgil was his children’s and grandchildren’s number one fan. He enjoyed golfing, playing euchre, woodworking as well as hunting and fishing.
He was a member of Impact Worship Center.
Those close to Virgil understood his one of a kind personality. Ornery and playful, he was always planning pranks on family and friends. More importantly Virgil was a great husband, father and grandfather. Described as a provider, he was hardworking, generous, and also soft-hearted.
Virgil is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Betty Sansom of Bellville; children and their spouses Gary and Rinda Sansom of Bellville, Keith Sansom of Mansfield, and Sherry and Bruce Smith of Bellville; grandchildren Shane and Kendra Sansom, Jeremy and Mindy Sansom, Michelle Sansom, Jerry and Irina Sansom, Tara and Rick Hayden; Brittany and Josh DiPuccio, Brandon Smith, and Kaila Sansom; 16 great grandchildren with one great granddaughter on the way; sisters-in-law Marcia Kasper and Dawn Wharton both of Bellville; several nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his son Terry “Bub” Sansom; brothers Hearl, Kermit, Thurmond, Cecil and Willis Sansom; sisters Erma Patton and Betty Chase.
The Sansom family will receive friends today, Tuesday March 13, 2012 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Calling hours will continue Wednesday from 11am-12pm where funeral services will begin at 12pm. Pastors Joel Warner and Christine Radojcsics will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Impact Worship Center or the Washington Township Rescue Squad may be made through the funeral home.
