Viola E. Mabe, age 86, of Fredericktown, died Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Viola was born February 25, 1920 in Tazwell County, Virginia to Elgin W. and Arminda (Fletcher) Elswick and had been a resident of Knox County since the early 1960’s. Viola was the ultimate wife, mother, and grandma. Her world revolved around her family as she cared for and nurtured them through out her lifetime.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fredericktown.
Surviving are her sons Lafayette “Leff” (Ellen) Mabe of Roanoke, Virginia and James Mabe of Fredericktown; her daughters Nellie (Jerry) Clevenger of Harmon, Virginia and Louise Barbour of Naples, Florida; her daughter-in-law Linda Mabe of Manassas, Virginia; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and Several great great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Willie W. Mabe, four sons Whitten Mabe, Claude Mabe, Randy Mabe and Stevie Mabe; her sister Mazie M. Lester and four brothers Elmer Elswick, Ernest Elswick, Frank Elswick, and Wesley Elswick.
Friends may call Tuesday from 1 PM to 3 PM and 6 PM to 8 PM at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 AM with Rev. Mary Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Ankenytown Cemetery.
