Thomas Kelley “Tomy” Swihart, age 43, of Mermary Drive, Fredericktown, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on April 30, 1972 in Mount Vernon, Ohio the son of Thomas L. Swihart and Helen Erlene (Kelley) Swihart. Tomy was a 1995 graduate of Fredericktown High School where he lettered in football his freshman year. He previously owned and operated Swihart Construction and Excavating and was currently working for Deer Creek Excavating. He attended the First Baptist Church of Fredericktown.

Tomy was a “big” man, but with that came a big heart. Everyone who met him immediately noticed his smile and laughter. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes, trapshooting, working on antique tractors and car restoration. Tomy was a loving father and son and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his father, two sons, Thomas Kellan Swihart and Tate Kelley Swihart both of Fredericktown, a half-brother, James Mitch (Susan) Simpson of Mount Vernon and the mother of his children, Heather Smith.

Besides his mother he was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Friends may call on Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Fredericktown where a funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. Rev. Timothy Mohon will be officiating. The family will observe a private graveside service in Quaker Cemetery in Fredericktown.

Memorial contributions in Tomy’s name may be made to the Fredericktown Athletic Boosters.

  • Tom was my student. He lead by example in our OWE program. He was our Man of the Year when he graduated for not only his academic and work skills but for his leadership and courage. A picture of him receiving his high school diploma at our banquet was on the front page of the Mt. Vernon News. I offer not only mine but my families deeps sympathy to the Swihart family.   • Tomy was a great childhood friend, those memories just make me smile. Our Dads shared stories with us that just seemed too far fetched, but could be true 🙂 I didn’t get to know Tomy as a man, but his smile in this picture takes me right back to grade school.
