Ted Apking

July 18, 1934 ‒ May 05, 2021

Lexington, Ohio

Ted Apking, age 86, peacefully passed away in his sleep at his Lexington home on May 5, 2021.

Theodore Herbert Apking was born on July 18, 1934, in Cincinnati to Theodore J. & Selma (Nahrholt) Apking. On February 6, 1971, he married Linda (Preston) and he was a wonderful husband and Dad to his family.

He worked as an operations manager for Dearman Moving & Storage (United Van Lines) and was proud to be the plant manager at Hilltop Concrete where he worked his way up from a driver. He enjoyed running, working out, and in younger years was a championship marksman.

Ted’s passion was boating and he particularly enjoyed Lake Cumberland in KY. He loved cars—especially his Mustang. He took pride in his boat & car—waxing them often to a polished shine. He will be remembered for his love of family and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children (& spouses) Dr. Ted Apking of Algonac, MI, Sandy & Dan Wishnick of Cumming, GA, Mike & Tara Apking of Bellville, and Nikki Adkins of Mansfield; 7 grandchildren; and dear friend Nancy Franks of Ontario.

Ted was preceded in death by his wife Linda Apking in 2017; sister Sonia Mae; and grandson Eric Wishnick.

His family will receive friends 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon Friday, May 14, 2021, at Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Avenue in Mansfield. A funeral service honoring Ted’s life will begin at 12:00 Noon officiated by family friend Pastor Tim Campbell.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society may be made at Ted’s service, sent to the charity (PO Box 98018, Washington DC, 20090) or online at donate.lls.org

We are so sorry to of Ted’s passing. We was so special to us, Mom’s cousin and my Godfather. Although we didn’t stay in touch enough over the years, he is thought of often. Mom and Dad were so happy to have been able to visit with him a couple of times in the last few years.

  • So sorry for your loss Mike and Tara.may he rest in peace. And fly high with the angels.

  • Our condolences to the Apking family. Though I never met Ted, through my relationship with Dr. Ted professionally and personally, I enjoyed hearing about his love for cars and I admired his overall toughness over the past few years.
    May he rest in peace.

  • Dr. Ted and all of your family,

I am of course sorry to hear your Dad has passed. He sounds so much like my Dad who I lost many years ago. I can relate to his love of the cars and being on the water (my Dad’s baby was his ’65 Galaxie convertible). Reading about your Dad’s life filled me with so many happy memories of my own. I hope the light that will guide you through the loss here will be your own fond memories with your Dad.

  • Ted, Sandy and Mike,

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you as you say goodbye to the father you have known. I so enjoyed growing up with you all and I’m glad we are still in touch. I enjoy seeing your photos on social media to help me feel connected even though we haven’t been together much over the years. I am grateful your Dad was at Velda and Jack’s Anniversary party a few years ago and he lived such a great life! I know your father will be missed and we know he is at peace. Love and Blessings to you all!
