Tammy Jo Van Horn Creasap

September 06, 1964 ‒ January 10, 2008

Mount Gilead, Ohio

Tammy Jo Van Horn Creasap, age 43, of Mount Gilead, died on Thursday evening, January 10, 2008, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital following a courageous battle with breast cancer that began in 2001.

On September 6, 1964, Tammy was born in Galion, Ohio, the daughter of Sherri Davis Van Horn of Mount Gilead and the late Gene Van Horn. A graduate of Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1982, Tammy later received her bachelor’s degree from Marion Technical College in Finance.

A tireless worker, Tammy worked for 21 years at the Smith Clinic in Marion, where she started in the payroll department and worked her way up to being a controller of Mach, Smith Clinic, and Mass. Up until her health ailments became more and more overwhelming, she would work seven days a week if they could give her enough work to keep her busy.

Tammy was a member of the Cardington Baptist Temple.

A very dedicated and loving mother, Tammy never missed a ball game or cattle show for her boys, when her health permitted. She was always there for them when they needed her.

With a love of music, Tammy had a passion for singing and she would sing at the various programs that were held at the clinic. Her father enjoyed her music so much, he had her make three or four tapes for him to listen to while he was farming.

Easy to shop for, Tammy had an extensive collection of bears from ceramics to many stuffed teddy bears.

Almost nightly, Tammy enjoyed a long peaceful walk and a bowl of ice cream, a love she inherited from her father. She was looking forward to her next visit to her mother’s home in Florida, a vacation she had enjoyed many times before.

Very strong willed, Tammy never let her illness bring her down. She fought with every bit of strength she had, and still managed to put the needs of others before her own. A heart of gold, she had a genuine appreciation for anything anyone ever did for her.

She will be missed by her mother, Sherri; two sons: Dustin (Ashley Gompf) Creasap and their son, Bryce, and Ryan Creasap, both of Mount Gilead; two sisters: Renee (Jeff) Clem of Lexington, and Heidi Van Horn of Mount Gilead; one brother, Ray (Anitra) Van Horn of Mount Gilead and their daughter, Alaina; and her former husband, Dale Creasap of Cardington.

Her family will greet friends on Sunday from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeannie Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 855 Grandview Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43212.
