MANSFIELD~ Sylvia D. Truex Allgire, age 90, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday afternoon December 10, 2008 in Lexington Court Care Center.

She was born October 16, 1918 in Pulaskiville to Clay and Grace (Ewers) Truex, was graduated from Chesterville High School in 1936 and attended Mansfield Business School.

On April 3, 1942 she married William Arnold Allgire, and settled in Fredericktown to raise their family.

In 1949 they moved to Bellville, and lived on Huron Street for decades. In Bellville Sylvia worked at the former Barnhill’s Market, The Wishmaker House, and during busy seasons at Clever Greenhouse. She truly found her niche when she accepted a position with Richland New Hope Industries. At New Hope, Sylvia helped clients maintain the production line with support and love.

Her patience and quiet demeanor made her perfect for her position at New Hope. After her retirement, clients recognized her for her smile and with a hug.

Always smiling, Sylvia lived a serene and gentle life. Not one for confrontation, when she did speak up, you can be assured her words were of great value. She and Arnold modeled a loving Christian couple to their family, espousing family values.

Sylvia was a member of New Life Church of Christ and Mansfield Christian Women’s Association.

Described as generous, she volunteered for more than ten years at Kingwood Center. She so enjoyed digging in her flower gardens, nurturing her dahlias and lily-of-the-valley, and was a member of Alta’s Arrangers.

A gifted needle worker, Sylvia crocheted, knitted and sewed, and could do most any craft.

She will be remembered for be caring and helpful nature ~ always being available at the right time, when help was needed.

Surviving are her daughter Beverly Shaffer of Mansfield; her son Bill Allgire of Honolulu, Hawaii; brothers and sisters-in-law Forrest “Fory” & Louella Truex of Mt. Vernon and Don & Glenna Truex of Zanesville; sisters-in-law Ruth Truex and Nellie Truex both of Mt. Vernon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Phyllis (Allgire) & Richard Lehnhart of Lucas; numerous nieces and nephews many of which she loved as grandchildren; and cousins including Evelyn Linder of Mt. Gilead.

Her beloved Arnold passed away on February 24, 1995. Also deceased are her son-in-law Myron Shaffer on September 26, 1997; as well as brothers Clifton, Howard, Everett, Floyd and Lowell Truex; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Stanley & Ruth Allgire and Mary Lillian & John Wells.

The Allgire Family will receive friends Sunday, December 14, 2008 from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Monday, December 15 at 11 a.m. Pastors Steve Kistler and Brent Ford will officiate. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Jefferson Township-Bellville Rescue Squad or Washington Township Rescue Squad may be made at the funeral home.
