Sylvester “Syl” Saylor, age 74 of Jackson, Ohio and formerly of Delaware passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at home surrounded by his family following a year long illness.

Born on September 16, 1938 in Oil Springs, Kentucky he was the son of the late Gail Saylor and Mable (Blanton) Spencer of Florida. A US Airforce veteran, he worked as an electrician for Anderson’s and then as a control officer for the Yuma County Sheriff Department. He also served as a Liberty Township Volunteer Fireman for 21 years.

An avid fan of NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Junior, he enjoyed fishing and bowled in the Chillicothe Bowling League. He was also a skilled woodworker. A true perfectionist, he as detailed oriented and organized. An electrician by trade, he could fix anything and was happiest in his garage tinkering on a project and being with his treasured family.

Sylvester will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years: Sandra (Howell), Children: Kim Spencer of Worthington, Karen (Rick) Hall of Ashley, Melissa (Matt)Pinnix of Sunbury, Donald (Yolanda) Gooding Jr. of Marietta, GA, Ronald (Beverly) Gooding of Warner Robins, GA, Beth (Fred) LaVigne of Sanford, Maine, Shawn (Debbie) Gooding of Logan, 17 Grandchildren, 5 Great-grandchildren, brother Chalmer (Carol) Salyor of Silver Springs, FL, sisters Leona Roberts of Silver Springs, FL, Margaret Roberts of Delaware, and step-sister Sharon Stultz of Delaware, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

Friends may call Noon until 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Dr., Delaware where services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Fairview Memorial Park with military honors provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
