Sidney Durbin Perkins

Sidney Durbin Perkins, age 90, of Mount Vernon passed away on Wednesday morning, January 6, 2016 at the Country Court Nursing Center surrounded by his family.  He was born on September 20, 1925 in Mount Vernon to the late Harry E. and Elizabeth W. (Durbin) Perkins.

Sidney was a graduate of Mercersburg Academy in 1944 and Penn State University in 1948 with an Oil and Gas Engineer’s Degree.  He was an oil and gas producer and farmer. Sidney was a member of the former Vine Street Church of Christ, the Mount Zion Lodge #9 F. & A.M., Knox Chapter #236 Order of Eastern Star and the Old Homestead Club.

Sidney is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Heckler) Perkins; son Daniel D.  (Lynn) Perkins of New Philadelphia;  daughters, Susan E. (Roger) Carlson of  Troy, MI  and Patricia L. (Christopher Gipple) Perkins of Amelia; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Carlson Schmotzer, David (Kelly) Carlson and Lt. Andrew (Melissa) Carlson and  great granddaughter, Madison Schmotzer; sister, Jean Shaffer of  Advance, NC; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Sidney was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Perkins.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon where a Masonic service will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday followed by a funeral service officiated by Sidney’s grandson, Pastor Dave Carlson. A private burial will be held in Mound View Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Knox County or the Knox County Dog Shelter in Sidney’s memory.
