BELLVILLE: Shirley Wilkins Valentin, age 74, of 4131 Bellville North Road, Bellville, died Saturday afternoon February 10, 2001 in her home following a short illness.

She was born November 22, 1926 in Dayton to William B. and Maudie Moore Wilkins, and had lived in the Bellville area for the past 7 years.

Mrs. Valentin was a violinist, violist, vocalist and composer, who used her music as an avocation rather than her chief means of support, the daughter of professional musicians, she played the violin for over 60 years, during which time she was active in three community orchestras, two chamber orchestras, numerous pit orchestras, and free-lanced in various groups for weddings, receptions, funerals and was the violinist in the Doll House String Trio for ten years. She sang church solos for 30 years at various churches, wrinting most of her own solos from Biblical texts. For the last 10 years she used the computer for composing, recording and printing her own musical compositions. In 1997 her Elegiac Fantasy for string quartet won a prize in a contest sponsored by The Ohio Federation of Musicians.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist and tutored at Hedges Middle School.

She is survived by eight nieces and nephews Steven Wilkins of Apopoka, FL, Mary Jean White of Longwood, FL, Bill Wilkins of Apopka, FL, Sue Ann Wilkins of Apopka, FL, Debbie Wilkins of Cincinnati, Peggy Wilkins of Richton Park, IL, Ryan Wilkins of Cleveland and Todd Wilkins of Washington, VA; special friends Jean Wilkins of Apopka, FL, Jane Wilkins of Celina, Debbis Fitzgerald of Cleveland, Penny Hayes of Bellville and James & Freda Davis of Bellville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Oscar E. Valentin and a brother Ned Wilkins.

Funeral services will b eheld Tuesday February 13, 2001 at 11 am in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Mr. Henry Koenig will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home the hour prior to the funeral.
