MANSFIELD: A family is a little world created by love. Blessed with an adoring family, Shirley Schoenman taught her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren how to love by her dedication to and unwavering love of Christ.
Her legacy of love in the Lord and for her family lives on even though she passed away peacefully Saturday, March 24, 2012 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was 87.
Shirley was born January 14, 1925 in Marion, one of eleven children to Thomas and Kathleen (Wibrew) Earhart and was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1944.
Later that same year, she wed Robert L. Schoenman, with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage. A dedicated wife and mother, together they raised their family in Mansfield in a house built of love.
Shirley worked as a secretary for Mansfield Tire and Rubber, but concentrated most of her efforts at home caring for her family. She absolutely adored her children and enjoyed playing board games and cards with her grandchildren.
She was a faithful member of Berean Baptist Church. For many years Shirley was also an active member of Marion Avenue Grace Brethren Church where she served as a Deaconess, and lead the Jet Cadet Group.
Shirley loved flowers, especially pansies and gardenias.
She is survived by her husband Robert of Mansfield, a son and daughter-in-law Randy and Shirlee Schoenman of Mansfield, a daughter and son-in-law Vickee and Bill Sawhill of Manistee, Michigan; six grandchildren and their spouses Greg and Lyn Schoenman, Betsy and Barry Koestler, Julee and Don Sims, Andrew and April Sawhill, Patrick and Kate Sawhill and Melissa Sawhill; ten great grandchildren, two sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Lou and Stan Thompson of Florida, and Jean and Harold Cotter of Mansfield; and a brother Bill Earhart of Galion.
She was preceded in death by and infant sister Agnes, and six brothers Scott, Charles, Tom, Jim, Dick and Bob.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. The funeral service giving glory to God for the life of Shirley Schoenman will be held Thursday at 11 am. in Berean Baptist Church, 2145 Middle Bellville Road, Mansfield. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service. Pastor Dave Pound will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
