Shelby R. Walker, age 83 of Delaware, passed away early Thursday morning at Grady Memorial Hospital. He was born October 31,1923 in Springfield, KY to Edith (Rowe) and Joseph Paul Walker Sr. He was a graduate of Rosenwald High School, Lebanon, KY and West Kentucky Vocational School, Paducah, KY. He was a licensed barber in Kentucky and a trained carpenter. A WWII Army veteran, he served in the China-Burma-India Theater. He was a long time Saddle Horse groom in Kentucky and Ohio and retired after 20 years with Raytheon. He was the Associate Minister of Zion AME Church, a trustee, Sunday School teacher, and former Sunday School superintendent and choir member. He was also a former member of the American Legion and NAACP. Shelby was a real Christian and a man after God’s own heart. He is survived by a stepson Richard Harris & his family of TN; sister Sarah (Robert) Hurrigan of Delaware; 7 nieces and 2 nephews; a host of cousins; and other devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. his wife Sara Harris in 1985, and ; and a brother Paul Walker Jr. Friends will be received this evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Zion AME Church, 140 S. Washington St., Delaware, OH where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM with Rev. Edna Parker officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
