Sandra Kay Hankins

December 31, 1956 ‒ September 07, 2021

Centerburg, Ohio

Sandra Kay Hankins, age 64, of Centerburg, Ohio, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on December 31, 1956, in Mount Vernon, Ohio the daughter of Donald and Ella “Gertrude” (Shipley) Ramey.

Sandy, commonly known as “Meemaw”, was the heart of the family as well as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Anyone who crossed her path knew her kind soul, soft-spoken nature, and nurturing heart.  She enjoyed working on the family farm and knew all the parts involved from animal care to the general chores.  While Sandy was good at many things, she was best at expressing her love of her family through food and time and attention.  She lived her days in support of her family, especially her last four years as “Meemaw” to Tinsley. The best four years.

She is survived by her husband Mark Hankins; her children, Zachariah (Heather) Hankins of Fredericktown and Sheena (Travis) Yoakam of Centerburg; her granddaughter, Tinsley Yoakam, and a brother Donnie (Becky) Ramey of Centerburg.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will observe private services and burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.  The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Sandra Kay Hankins.

Memorial contributions in Sandy’s name may be made to Kindred Hospice.

Sending my deepest sympathy and condolences to you during this difficult time. My heart aches for you all knowing she is no longer with you all. I’m so thankful I saw Sandy and Tinsley that day at the park a few months ago, and enjoyed our conversation while both the girls played. It was nice to catch up, not bowing that would be our last conversation. Sandy had a heart of gold and always put her family first. Heaven gained another Angel the day she left this earth. Love hugs and prayers to you all.

  • I’m so sorry for your family’s great loss. No words I can say seem adequate enough. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
