Samuel E. Salyers

Samuel E. Salyers, age 72 of Galena died Sunday evening, September 16, 2007 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on March 24, 1935 in Columbus to the late Noah and Myrtle (Stambaugh) Salyers. A graduate of Marengo High School, he spent the majority of his life in the Sunbury area. Sam owned and operated Salyers Golf Course Construction Company for 35 years. He was well known and respected throughout Ohio and beyond for his skill and excellence in the construction and renovation of golf courses.
Sam loved his family and his friends, and he loved life. Sam took pleasure in being outdoors where he would pursue fishing, deer hunting, and golfing. Sam attended the Genoa Baptist Church. While fun loving at heart, kind and honest he will be remembered for his strong work ethic and for striving for perfection in his work
Survived by his wife of 28 years: Cheryl (Saunders), Sons: Steve (Cheryl) Salyers of Hilliard, Greg Salyers of Worthington, Daughters: Cherie (Bruce) Fritch, Janice Gay (Dick) Teter, Renee Salyers and Regina Salyers all of Delaware, Christy Salyers of Galena, 13 Grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren, Brothers: William and John Salyers of Ft. Pierce, FL, Sisters: Alma Andrix of Columbus, Marie Reynolds of Bucyrus, Patricia Salyers of Columbus, Jane Stout of Olive Green.
Preceded in death by Step-son: Scott Bergandine.
Friends may call Friday 4-8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Wayne Booth officiating, interment Sunbury Memorial Park.
