Russell J. “Rusty” Schreiber, 75, of 543 McDonald Avenue, Galion, died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital, Mansfield.
Born April 22, 1928 in Garfield Heights, he was the son of the late Herman B. Schreiber and Emma Leide Schreiber. On October 2, 1951 he married Jean E. Chapman Schreiber and she preceded him in death on October 28, 1993.
He was a graduate of Cuyahoga High School in Cleveland where he lettered in track.
He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on church council, was Sunday school superintendent and a Sunday school teacher. He was formerly the treasurer of Galion Weekday Religious Education Council. He served as committeeman for I.A.M. and A.W. Local #1151 in Galion and was a member of American Legion Scarbrough Post #243 and United Seniors Association. He was an avid lover of antiques and old cars.
He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic at Reindl Springs where he retired in 1990. From 1952 to 1969, he was an expeditor at the former North Electric and Power Equipment Company in Galion.
Surviving is a brother and sister-in-law, John and Carol Schreiber, of Maple Heights; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Annabelle and Willard Poland, of Galion; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, God children and close friends.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Karl Ribbeck officiating. Interment will be in Crawford County Memory Gardens where full military graveside services will be conducted by the Galion area Veterans Organizations.
