December 23, 1951 ‒ September 01, 2018
Robert W. “Bob” Harris, age 66, of Marengo, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, following a brief illness.
On December 23, 1951, Bob was born in Columbus, OH, the fourth of eight children of the late Harold Wallace Harris and Betty Jean (Fisher) Kempton. He graduated from Garrettsville High School in Portage County in the Class of 1970. There, he was the #1 golfer on the Varsity golf team and also coached the JV team.
On April 30, 1971, Bob and Martha Mae Pirolozzi eloped to Sparta, NC, and tied the knot. They shared over 42 wonderful years of marriage together before she preceded him in death on February 7, 2014. Bob and Martha enjoyed spending free time at the casino. In the past they had enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, and in their later years would go to Wheeling Island, Hollywood Casino, and Scioto Downs, where they loved playing the slot machines.
For many years, Bob owned his own shop in Marion, Express Auto Glass. Later he was a property manager for WODA Management and Real Estate.
Bob loved golf and was a long time member and former President of the Big Walnut Golf Club. He also liked cheering for the Buckeyes and Browns. He enjoyed making things out of glass and always had a new idea or project he was working on. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Bob will be dearly missed by his two sons: Robert (Jennine) Harris II of Mount Gilead, Matthew (Miranda) Harris of Marengo; a daughter, Rachel Gordon of Marengo; seven grandchildren: Samantha Harris, Brooke Ratliff, Benjamin, Grant, Faith, Autumn “Bebalator” Harris, and Liam Gordon; three sisters: Carolyn Southard, Peggy Stewart, Diana Lynn Call; and a brother, John Harris.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters: James Harris, Karen Cody and Mark Harris.
