Robert P. “Tommy” Thomas Jr., 74, of Mansfield passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at OhioHealth MedCentral Hospital in Mansfield.

Born September 7, 1942 in Galion, he was the son of Robert P. Thomas, Sr. and Lorine (Jones) Thomas.

Tommy was a graduate of Northmor High School and attended Columbus State Community College. He was an avid chess player in his younger years and a devoted Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan. Tommy was always cheerful, enjoyed joking with everyone and was always willing to sing a song to anyone who visited him.

He is survived by sisters Suzanne Caudill, Janet Hart and Melissa Leppert, all of Galion and eight nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandmother Grace Thomas.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at Fairview Cemetery in Galion with Pastor Joe Stafford officiating.

Memorial contributions in Tommy’s honor may be made to the charity of donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.

  • Sorry to learn of Tommy passing. I got to know him at Mansfield Memorial Homes when I spent 3 months in rehab there. We had a lot of fun together, he was special, and could he ornery.He loved OSU football. He played bingo when he was on good behaviour! A smiling face, with a song, greeted all who passed! God speed Tommy, you are home now, RIP.

  • I am truly sadden by Tommy’s death. From kindergarten at the original old North school to early adulthood I counted Tommy as my friend. I have countless memories of so many good childhood times with Tommy, I know I will miss him.

  • I took care of Tom At Mansfield Memeral Homes. I worked 3rd shift and I loved Tom. We would sing talk about the browns Tom was . A wonderful man with a smile that would lift your heart. My prayers are with you . R I P Tom. Bless you all
