Robert L. McCarty

Robert L. McCarty, age 72 of Marengo passed away Sunday, September 18, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN surrounded by his family.
He was born on Sept. 18, 1933 in Marengo to the late Deltus and Mary A. (Babcock) McCarty. A graduate of Marengo High School Class of 1951 and a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he retired in 1991 after 39 years as a Central Foreman with Ohio Bell Telephone.
A life member of American Legion Post #710, he held all of the office chairs for Post #710, District #6, and Department of Ohio, serving as State Commander of American Legion Department of Ohio in 1986 – 1987. He also served the Legion as an Alternate for the National Executive Com. He was a member of the 40/8 Voiture, GOVA, Buckeye Boy’s State Commission, AMVets Post #87, and Marengo United Methodist Church. Bob served on the Veterans Services Commission for Morrow County and was a former Marengo Village Councilman.
He was dedicated to fellow veterans and the American Legion, but family was always first in Bob’s life. He loved the Buckeyes, serving as an usher for both basketball and football home games. He enjoyed golfing, landscaping, vegetable gardening, and traveling to all 50 United States.
Survived by his devoted wife of 51 years: Grace “Joan” (Fisher) McCarty, Children: Cindy (Willie) McCurdy of Marengo, Keith (Pam) McCarty of Cardington, Van (Dave) Lehman of Sparta, 9 Grandchildren: Linda, Mandee, Kelly, Dana, Shaun, Dusty, Jason, Nichole, Dennis, 5 Great-Grandchildren: Alanna, Ryan, Jace, Cody, Dillon, Brothers: Ben of FL, Kenneth (Faye) of Fallon, NV, Paul (Lois) McCarty, and Sister: Vivian Matthews of Marengo.
Also preceded in death by Brother Melvyn in 1945.
Friends may call Saturday 2-4 and 6-8 with American Legion services at 4:00 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Sunday 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Bev Hall officiating, interment with military honors will follow in Galena Cemetery.
