Robert L. ”Jollie” Jolliff, age 59, of Mount Vernon died Friday June 18, 2010 at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus following an extended illness. Jollie was born August 12, 1950 in Knox County to the late Rollin E. and Mary Louise (Haas) Jolliff, was a 1968 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and had spent his lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. He was retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation, where he had been for employed for 30 years, retiring as a supervisor on the highway maintenance crew.
Jollie enjoyed time spent on his boat at lake Erie with his friends fishing. He was an avid fan of Ohio State Basketball and the Cincinnati Reds.
Jollie was a member of the Colonial City Moose Lodge in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are his sisters Joan (James) Raymond and Linda (Joseph) Street both of Mount Vernon and B. Jean Jolliff of Logan, many nieces and nephews; his feline companion, a striped tiger cat named “Tom Boy”, and his many friends at ODOT.
Friends may call Friday June 25, 2010 from 5pm to 7pm at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a service celebrating the life of Robert E. “Jollie” Jolliff will follow at 7pm. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
