Robert A. “Bob” Johns

December 02, 1941 ‒ August 23, 2016

Centerburg, Ohio

Robert A. “Bob” Johns, age 74, of Centerburg died Tuesday afternoon, August 23, 2016 at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville after battling Esophageal Cancer since January.

He was born on December 2, 1941 in Mount Vernon, Ohio the son of the late Denzil and Marie (Perkins) Johns.

Bob has been a resident of the Centerburg community nearly all his life.  He graduated from Centerburg High School, married the love of his life at her family home in Centerburg, and they went on to build their dream home and raise their two beautiful daughters in Centerburg.  Needless to say the community of Centerburg has played a large part in who Bob was.

Bob worked as an independent contractor for Nestle Purina for over 30 years.  He traveled all over the country instructing their various plants on proper operating procedures, even filling out paperwork.  He was not ready to retire and if it weren’t for the downturn of his health, he’d still be working.

When he wasn’t traveling for work, you could find him in the basement with tool in hand.  Bob was always building something and if Mary needed something done all she had to do was ask.  In fact, that same rule applied to all who knew Bob.  He was always willing to help out.

He will be remembered as the most wonderful Husband and Father.  He was blessed with 6 beautiful grandchildren and more recently his great granddaughter.

He will be missed by his wife, Mary, who he married on August 20, 1961; their daughters Christine Greenwood and her husband Bennett of Sunbury and Becky Walpole and her husband Don of Centerburg; six grandchildren Dan and his wife Rachael Walpole, Michael Greenwood, Alex Walpole, Nick Greenwood, Megan Greenwood, and Nathaniel Greenwood; great granddaughter Rylee Walpole; sister Linda Gates of Centerburg; and half-sisters Sandy, Suzie, and Patty.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his half-sister Charlotte.

Friends may call on the family on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 4-8 PM at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074.  Funeral services will be held there on Saturday at 10:00 AM with Pastor Tom Tucker and Evangelist Fred Albrecht officiating.  Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.

If desired, memorial contributions can be made to Vineyard Church in Johnstown or the Centerburg Church of Christ.

The DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home of Sunbury is honored to serve Bob’s family.  Special memories and condolences can be shared with them at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com

  • Please accept my condolences on your family’s loss. I worked with Bob for more than 20 years at Purina. He was a very talented and hardworking guy. Hardest working guy I have ever known. And, oh so smart. He taught me something every time we interacted. But, more than that, he was a friend. I consider myself lucky to have known him. I will miss him greatly and think of him often.

You have my sympathy as well as thoughts and prayers.
