Rickey Joe Votaw

Rickey Joe Votaw, age 65, of Ashley, passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 14, 2013 at Grant Medical Center. He was born January 3, 1948, in Washington County, Kentucky, to his late parents, James Votaw and Jenell (Greene) Selby.
Rick graduated from Buckeye Valley High School in 1965 and earned his Associates Degree from Marion Technical College. He married the love of his life, Norma, on July 2, 1966 and together they had 3 children. He retired from Siemans after 12 years and previously worked with Ranco for 23 years. He was a former member of the UAW and IBEW.
Rick could often be found bowling in the Saturday Night Church League at Colony Lanes or playing computer games. He enjoyed following NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt Jr as well as the OSU Buckeyes football and basketball programs. Rick volunteered his time assisting the elderly through the AARP Tax Preparation program. He was happiest spending time with and teasing his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma of the home; son, Kris (Debra Martin) of Johnstown; daughters, Cynthia (Edward) Turner of Radnor; Lisa Gale of Delaware; brother, Michael (Susan) of Ashley; sisters, Sandy Votaw of Sunbury; Cindy (Toby) Brown of Marion; stepsister, Ruthanne (Curtis) Poulton of Columbiana; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Lynn) Jordan of Marysville; Carol Overfield of Columbus; grandchildren, Charity, Amy (Zak), Johnathon; Elizabeth; Phoeby; Kraig; one great grandson, Lane, who was born on Rick’s birthday this year as well as many nieces and nephews and last but not least, Piper the cat.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm on Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St, Delaware where funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday with Pastor Paul Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery in Marysville.
