Rickey E. Maffett Sr

June 23, 1953 ‒ April 20, 2020

Perrysville, Ohio

Rickey E. Maffett Sr. passed away Monday evening, April 20, 2020, in University Hospital Cleveland surrounded by his family. He was 66.

He was born June 23, 1953, in Mansfield to parents Richard & Gaynelda (Stull) Maffett. Rick worked at Lu-Crest Pest Control, where he worked for over 25 years until retiring this year.

In spare time, he took pleasure in racing, going to Cedar Point and spending time with his family. Over the years Rick spent a lot of time at the Hill Top Race Track, helping in all capacities around the track, while also enjoying the races. One of his most favorite things to do was to go to Cedar Point. From the rides to the atmosphere, he loved everything there was to love about the park and looked forward to going several times a year.  But above all, Rick cherished spending time with his family and will be greatly missed. He was also very active in his bowling leagues throughout the years at Tri-Way Bowling Alley.

He is survived by his children Casey (Zach) Hendershott, Rickey Maffett Jr., Susan Good-Firebaugh, and Jessica Clegg; grandson Silas Hendershott and one on the way; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; siblings Cheryl (John) Griffin, Reburn Lewis, and Sandra Maffett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his siblings Richard Maffett Jr, and Sonya Stull.

A celebration of life gathering will be held in Rick’s memory at a future date, and although no public service will be held at this time, his family hopes that you will hold him in your heart as you remember him in your own special way.

  • Rick was a classmate of mine from LHS (1971). He was a good friend. Had a great smile when he shared it. One time he got in the car with me & 3 of my best girlfriends. He climbed in the back seat between 2 of my friends just giggling & flirting with them. We drove the normal path we kids of the 60’s & 70’s did back in those days – From the High School to Modern Home & back again. Cruising all over town, honking horns & yelling at friends out the window. Fun memories. I will never forget him. Rest in peace Rick! Prayers to your family!

  • I will miss Rick greatly. I grew up with him in Perrysville as did so many of us. Rick liked to smile and us laugh. I will think of you often Rick.

  • Very sad to hear of Rick’s passing. Good memories of going to Cedar Point during Halloween and riding every ride in the park until closing. Best ride buddy anyone could ask for and really great to be around. Sorry we didn’t stay in contact over the years but memories will never be lost. RIP
