Richard W. “Rick” Sobers, 61, of Howard passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 14, 2017 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born April 18, 1956 in Newark to Helen (Priest) Sobers and the late Edwin Sobers.

Rick worked for United Precast in Mount Vernon for over 32 years.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the VFW in Mount Vernon.  In his spare time, Rick enjoyed spending time with family and friends but most of all he loved watching his granddaughter, Mackenzie play softball and his grandsons, Dagan and Zaden play t-ball.

Rick is survived by his daughter, Kim Sobers of Mount Vernon; son,  Chad Sobers of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Mackenzie Rine of Mount Vernon, Dagan Smith of Mount Vernon, Zaden Moore of Mount Vernon and Aliyha Lowery of Mount Vernon; brother, David Sobers of Westminster, SC; sisters, Diane Sullivan of St. Petersburg, FL, Linda (Dick) Lester of College Station, TX, Kathy (Gene) Sechrest of East Rochester, Cheryl Stockdale of Newark, Debbie (Chuck) Guisinger of Newark, and Bonnie (Bud) Beeco of Fredericktown; his companion of over 18 years, Sandy McQueen of Howard and her daughters, Cana Smith and Stenia McQueen of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Rick was preceded in death by a sister, Kim Snow.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon, where a funeral service celebrating the life of Rick will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017.  Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

    So very sorry for your loss – shocking. These are the most difficult days that life brings to us. Find some peace in the fact that your dad loved you in an unbounded manner and would want you to be strong together. Ask the lord for peace in your heart and strength to keep moving.
    I have many good memories of times with your dad both at work and the years we played golf together. He was a positive thinker and I know he passed that quality to you. Prayers and God Bless you all!
