MANSFIELD: Richard T. Ashley, age 57, of Mansfield passed away Saturday, December 17, 2011 in Mifflin Care Center following a long illness.
He was born March 24, 1954 in Mansfield the son of Berthal Travis and Trula Lee (Tate) Ashley.
Rich worked at Westinghouse and Shafer Valve. Most recently he worked inventory at Cornell’s in Shelby.
A U.S. Army veteran, Rich served two years during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1975.
Rich loved country music. He enjoyed playing his favorite Randy Travis songs on his acoustic guitar.
He also liked fishing up at Lake Erie and hunting rabbits and pheasant with his brother.
Rich is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Misti and Ben Horn of Mansfield, a son and daughter-in-law Scott and Bonnie Ashley of Mansfield, five grandchildren Nikolas Young, Lauren, Megan and Hunter Ashley; a sister and brother-in-law Deborah and Russell Gregory of Tallahassee, Fl, a brother Tony Ashley of Mansfield, three aunts and their spouses Lela Shelton, Eula and Raymond Robey all of Bellville, and Delida Griffits of Portland, TN; nieces and nephews Lori and Doug Borchers of KY, Heather Douglas of FL, Josh Ashley of Mansfield and Heath Ashley of SC; great nieces and great nephews Brooke and Connor Borchers and Kyra Douglas, along with numerous extended family members.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an aunt Lola Craft, and two uncles Willard and Clifton Tate.
Friends may call Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 10-11am in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a memorial service will be held at 11am. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will present military honors at the funeral home and Pastor Mark Bailey will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
