Richard Allen Brown, 70, of Raleigh, NC passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
Born in Marion, Ohio to the late Paul and Marjorie Brown, he was known to most friends and family as Dick. He was a 1964 graduate of Marion Harding High School and a member of the Championship Harding High School basketball team. Dick had a 20 year career as a railroad engineer with Erie Lackawanna/Conrail of which he was very proud. After the railroad, he became a building contractor and also spent several years thru the 1980s coaching girls Basketball and Track at St. Mary’s Elementary and Marion Catholic High School. In the early 1990’s Dick moved to Raleigh NC where he was in property management with UDRT and Bell Properties until his retirement in 2008 after becoming afflicted with Inclusion Body Myositis, a degenerative muscle disease. Dick was a strong, kind and intelligent soul with a wonderful sense of humor, whose primary love was his family. Dick was an avid Buckeyes fan. He loved the outdoors and cherished his memories of camping and fishing trips to Lake Erie and Ontario, Canada. He was a remarkable man, wonderful father and husband.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Turner Brown, daughters Gina Brown and Kim Williams of Marion Ohio, three grandchildren Raymond Williams, Logan Williams and Savannah Hart and two great grandchildren Lillianne and Wayne, sisters Margaret Capps of Ashville, NC, Donna Thacker of Columbus, OH and Mary Schlosser of Marion, OH. As well as, several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Calling hours will be Saturday October 22, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm at the SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, GUNDER HALL CHAPEL, 347 West Center St., Marion.
