Ray Woolison, 93, of Riverview, Florida formerly of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday afternoon September 4, 2018 at the Sun City Center Hospice House in Ruskin, Florida. He was born October 27, 1924 in Gambier to the late Stephen and Anna (Blue) Woolison.


Ray honorably served his country as a member of the army transportation corps during WWII. He retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio in 1984 after 31 years of service. He was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. Ray was a 50-year member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club. He was a former Ohio High School Athletic Association football and basketball registered official.  Ray continued his passion for sports throughout his lifetime by following the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Indians, Browns and the Cavaliers.


He is survived by 3 daughters Linda Csutoras (Mike) of Riverview Florida, Ronita Lumbatis and Dixie Spencer (Carl) of Mt. Vernon; two grand-daughters, Bailey Allen and Lori Monczewski; three grandsons, Jason Lumbatis, Neil Spencer and Randy Spencer; 5 great-grand daughters, Meighan Monczewski, Ledea Spencer, Cassandra Spencer, Brittany Moon and Alexis Akers; five great-grandsons, Kyle Monczewski, Kris Monczewski, Colby Monczwski, Ian Spencer and Neil Spencer Jr.; and one great great-grandson Isaac Spencer.


In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Norma Jean (Downing) Woolison, his sister Laura Mae Woolison, and daughter Beverly (Frye) Mitchell.


The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm on Sunday, September 9, 2018 and Monday, September 10, 2018 from 10-11am at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon where a funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, September 10, 2018 with Rev. Jerry Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

  • Carolyn and I have many fond memories of the years we lived next door to Ray and Jean on North Mulberry St…Especially his rose garden, he would bring Carolyn’s favorites over and lay them on the hood of her car for her to take to work with her. We visited in the back yards often and the fishing stories were great, especially the big one that was mounted over his bar in his man cave..His Christmas cards were always first to arrive every year…We have lost a good friend and neighbor…
