Dr. Ralph Mitchell 91 of Delaware passed away Wednesday May 24, 2017 at his residence.
He was born June 16, 1925 in Ashland, Kentucky the son of the late John & Oma (Gerhart) Mitchell.
From a young age Ralph was extremely intelligent; graduating from high school early, got accepted to The Ohio State University when he was 16, graduated with his Masters Degree at 19, and later earned his PhD from The Ohio State University in Biomedical Engineering.
He worked as a research scientist for Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus and later retired from there.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Hedwig Goldsmith Mitchell; son Richard Mitchell; daughters Linda Hayth and Nadine Shoemaker; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sister Wanda O’Keefe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter in-law Lee Mitchell, and brother in-law John O’Keefe. Ralph was a member of the National Rifle Association, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, farming, woodworking, and overall just fixing things.
Ralph had a strong will and a strong character; he will be missed dearly by his family and anyone who knew him.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Union Cemetery 3349 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio 43202. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed towards Hospice of Central Ohio 2269 Cherry Valley Rd. SE, Newark, OH 43055
