MANSFIELD: Phyllis Evelyn van Harlingen, age 87, of Mansfield passed away Thursday evening, July 14, 2011 in Hospice House of North Central Ohio following a long illness.

She was born April 8, 1924 in Mansfield, the only child of Arthur A. and Eva (King) Stratman and was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1942.

On November 4, 1944 she married William J. van Harlingen who preceded her in death on April 3, 1969.

Phyllis retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield as the office manager.

A lifelong area resident, Phyllis was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.

Phyllis enjoyed tending her flower beds and doing yard work. She also loved taking care of her dogs, Fritz a miniature Schnauzer and Peanut a Jack Russell Terrier.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law Ary and Gay van Harlingen of Mansfield and Jon and Jill van Harlingen of Mansfield. Also surviving are her four grandchildren Julie van Harlingen and her husband Nathan Aish of San Diego, CA, Tom van Harlingen, Dan and Mandy van Harlingen, and Ed van Harlingen all of Mansfield , and a great granddaughter Layla Marie van Harlingen.

Friends may call Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 2-4 pm in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30 am. Pastor Jim Streib will officiate. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
