BELLVILLE: Pauline Emma Zindel, 95, of Bellville and formerly of Akron passed away Monday, August 19, 2013 in Oak Grove Manor.

She was born August 29, 1917 in Akron, the oldest daughter of Joseph P. and Emma (Grindel) Walent. During the depression, Pauline took much of the responsibility in helping to raise her younger siblings.

During the war, Pauline contributed to the effort building bullet proof aircraft fuel tanks at the B.F. Goodrich Company. She also worked in sales at the Sommerville Office Supply and Kistler’s Doughnuts in Akron. Pauline also dedicated five years in the kitchen for the Northeast School System before her retirement.

Residing in Bellville since 1993, she was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mansfield where she was active in many of the ladies groups. Raised in a time and place where many where persecuted for their religion, Pauline was a staunch Lutheran with a strong faith.

Pauline was an excellent homemaker with a great talent for baking. Her family looked forward every year to her Christmas cookies…she made at least a dozen varieties! She was also a gifted seamstress, and had a soft place in her heart for animals, especially her cats.

Pauline is survived by two sons George R. and Nancy Kmet of Bellville and Ted Kmet of Gainesville, FL, a step daughter Mary Betz of Alliance, two grandchildren Keith R. Kmet of San Francisco, CA, and Karin and Jack Burden of Las Vegas, NV, and siblings Jim and Lydia Walent of Copley, Robert J. and Nancy Walent of Clover, SC, and Betty and Frank Catalano of Brooksville, FL, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband George Kmet in 1965 and her second husband Charles H. Zindel in 1992. Pauline was also preceded in death by siblings Albert Walent, Paul Walent, Luther Walent, Arlene Whitney, William W. Walent, and Lenora Hodge.
