Patricia Ann Friend, age 67, of Loudonville, Ohio, and formerly of Lamberton, Pennsylvania, went to be join her family and Lord Sunday afternoon, March 10, 2013, at the Med-Central Hospital in Mansfield, following complications from a recent fall.
On March 27, 1945, Patricia was born in Lamberton, Pennsylvania, the only daughter of seven children of the late Ransler and Agnes (Mizic) Friend.
Spending many of her years with her parents in Lamberton, Patricia also attended the Adult Rehabilitation Center of Fayette County from 1981 until 1997. After her mother’s death, she lived at several homes for MRDD clients in the Uniontown area. In 1997, Patricia moved to Loudonville, Ohio, where she resided at Jac-Lin Manor. Patricia had 31 housemates, who became “another family” to her over the 16 years she resided there as she lived life to the fullest! She loved interacting with the staff and was fondly known as “Grandma Friend”. Patricia worked at the Del Roy Center in Ashland for many years and most recently attended the Beacon Center in Loudonville. Pat was a Red Hatter, attended New Hope Church, and her travel itinerary consisted of going “anywhere the bus was going”. She loved shopping, was very proud of her Special Olympics medals and participated in “Walk for the Cure” as a cancer survivor.
Despite her physical limitations, Pat was determined to make the most of our her life, letting nothing slow her down. She had a lively spirit and personality, and was a blessing to be around.
She will be dearly missed by her four brothers: Paul R. Friend of Hopwood, PA, John W. (Kathy) Friend of Mount Gilead, OH, James C. (Marie) Friend of New Salem, PA, and Jerald D. (Peggy) Friend of Lamberton, PA; her pen pal and closest friend, Sherry Fowler of Loudonville, OH; and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Including her parents, Pat was preceded in death by two brothers: Ransler F. “Buck” Friend and his wife, Dorothy Ann “Sue” Friend, and Ronald M. Friend; a sister-in-law, Deloris Caffery Friend; nephews: Randy Friend and Josh Friend; maternal grandparents: John and Mary Mizic; and paternal grandparents: Frances and Francis Friend.
Patricia’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Haky Funeral Home, 515 N. Main St., Masontown, PA 15461. Services celebrating her life and homecoming will also be held there on Friday at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Bernard Carl officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Uniontown, PA.
Her family suggests that memorial gifts be given to Jac-Lin Manor, 695 S. Mount Vernon St., Loudonville, OH 44842, for their tender loving care of Pat.
