Odessa Irene Sell

MANSFIELD~ Odessa Irene Sell, age 95, of Chilton Avenue, Mansfield passed away Saturday morning December 6, 2008 in Winchester Terrace Nursing Home.
She was born January 4, 1913 in Lexington to Clarence G. and Grace (Goodheart) Garver, and was graduated from Lexington High School.
Odessa had worked as a caterer in the historic Leland Hotel, downtown Mansfield. She later worked part-time with Mansfield General Hospital, and clerked in the JCPenney store downtown before accepting a position with Sears Roebuck & Company. She retired from Sears in 1967 as division manager of the infant and children’s department.
She spent the first 20 years of her retirement on her Hazlett Road farm near Butler, before moving to Lexington for ten years.
Described as a sweet person, Odessa enjoyed sewing and was a voracious reader. At the rate of ten books a week, she went through mysteries, biographies and books of local history.
She is survived by her daughter Nora Blamer of Mansfield; sons and daughters-in-law James & Janet Mitchell of Mansfield, Charles & Penny Mitchell of Ocala, Florida, and Allen & Ellen Mitchell of Butler; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law Neil & Geri Garver of Mansfield; a sister-in-law Betty Garver of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold J. Sell; a daughter Grace Griffith; and brothers Arlo, Robert and Harold Garver.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 12, 2008 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, Mansfield.
