Norma J. O’Rourke
September 22, 1927 ‒ October 11, 2021
Norma J. O’Rourke, age 94, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.
Norma was born in Toledo, OH on September 22, 1927 to the late Hubert and Helen (Wheeler) Buck. Norma graduated in 1945 from Woodward High School in Toledo. Norma was introduced by a co-worker and future sister-in-law (Patricia) to Paul O’Rourke. A young man back from the Navy and Bowling Green University. After an uneventful first date Patricia stoked the fire for a second date. From there began a journey that spanned a 64-year adventure.
Norma was an energetic, driven young woman who before she married worked as a soda jerk, bank teller, and in several retail establishments in Toledo. Her true calling besides being a good wife was being a good mother to her three children. Following Paul’s retirement from teaching, Norma and Paul were Property Managers for Showe Management Corporation. They managed several apartment complexes in Ohio and West Virginia, garnering numerous awards for excellence.
Norma was a long-time member of St. Mary Church in Marion where she was part of the Altar Guild. Norma cherished her Catholic faith and was never without spiritual inspiration. She had a very generous and kind heart and was loved by many family and friends. Norma enjoyed traveling to several states, visiting her sons and taking cruises with her husband. She also enjoyed Sunday visits at the farm, gardening and cooking. We all joked about her devotion to daily and immaculate laundry.
Norma will be missed by her children Kathy O’Rourke, Navy Ret LCDR Michael (Claire) O’Rourke and Kevin O’Rourke all of Marion. She is also survived by her niece Eileen Scanlin and nephew Patrick (Marsha) Scanlin.
In addition to her husband and parents, Norma was preceded in death by her sister, Alta (Cliff) McKibbin and beloved sister-in-law Patricia (John) Scanlin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 AM on Monday, October 18, 2021at St. Mary Catholic Church (251 N. Main Street, Marion) with Father Kyle Tennant presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marion.
