Nellie Elizabeth Baker Newcomer

September 01, 1921 ‒ April 04, 2020

Perrysville, Ohio

Nellie Elizabeth Baker Newcomer passed away peacefully Saturday, April 4, 2020, in her home surrounded by her family. She was 98.

She was born September 1st, 1921 to parents Leo Clever & Esther Mae (Bowen) Baker in Perrysville. After Nellie graduated as class president from Perrysville High School with the class of 1939, she married Harold Eugene Newcomer on August 10, 1944. They spent 69 wonderful years together until he passed away in 2013. Not only were Nellie and Harold lifetime residents of Perrysville, but they also lived in the same home that Harold built for Nellie since 1948.

Nellie worked at Mansfield Sanitary Pottery from 1940 to 1946 as a payroll clerk and from 1946 to most current, she was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother to her 6 children.  Together Harold and Nellie had 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In spare time, Nellie took pleasure in caring for the birds and bird watching, especially hummingbirds. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and writing corresponding letters to family and friends. Nellie was a lifetime member of the Perrysville Presbyterian Church, where she was very active in all church groups and activities. But above all, Nellie cherished time with her family and will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her children Barbara Ann McDanel of Ashland, David Newcomer of Delaware, Dennis (Cindy) Newcomer of Perrysville, Dan Newcomer of Perrysville, Jim Newcomer of Loudonville, and Wendy (Ron) Trapp of South Haven, MI.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Edward McDanel; sister Marjorie Burcaw; brother-in-law William Burcaw; brother Clem Allen Baker; infant brother Jimmy Baker; and nephew Jeffrey Burcaw.

A graveside service honoring Nellie’s life will be held Monday, April 6th, 2020 at 12 p.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Pastor Kathleen Walkerow will officiate.

Contributions in Nellie’s memory to Perrysville Presbyterian Church may be made at the graveside service or mailed to the church, 111 S Bridge St, Perrysville, OH 44864.
