May 19, 1935 ‒ April 01, 2021
BELLVILLE: Nancy Barr, age 85, of Bellville passed away Thursday morning, April 1, 2021 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
She was born May 19, 1935 in Ontario to the late Harold and Bertha (Butler) Brokaw and graduated from Butler High School in 1953.
On December 23, 1951 she married Kenneth Barr with whom she celebrated nearly 70 years of marriage.
Nancy worked as an executive secretary for many years at Westinghouse, Butler School, and Richland Trust. She was also blessed with a caregiver’s heart babysitting for several of her grandchildren.
She was very active at Butler United Methodist Church (now Three Crosses) especially with the youth and children. Nancy fostered the concept of the church’s preschool and was pleased to see it flourish.
When she was able to get out, Nancy enjoyed antiquing with her good friend Edith and garage sales. Around this time she also developed a passion for ceramics and cross-stitching. She loved dogs especially Bulldogs, Schnauzers and Golden Retrievers and raised many litters. As she became homebound, she became very adept at Ebay and would shop for collectables like Fenton glass and dolls for hours. She liked watching Little House on the Prairie, scrapbooking and crochet.
More than anything, Nancy loved Ken and her children. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and the blessing of being a great grandma.
In addition to her dedicated husband Kenny, Nancy is survived by three sons and a daughter Russ (Laurel) Barr of Fort Smith, AR, Gary (Connie) Barr of Bellville, Tod (Natalie) Barr of Ashland, and Kim (Jeff) Nelson of Atwater; grandchildren Aubrey Barr (Alex Bishop), Jeremy (Shanna) Barr, Ken (Amber) Barr, Hallie Barr (Marcin Puto), Carrie (Clint) Knight, Josh (Kelsey) Barr, Logan (Rachel Falb) Barr and Hunter Nelson; 10 great grandchildren with 2 on the way, and many extended family members and friends.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Richard, Tod and Jerry Brokaw.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 5, 2021 from 12- 1 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held in Shauck Cemetery.
