MANSFIELD: Mildred Irene Smith, 98, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 at home following a brief illness.

The daughter of Bun and Martha (Sherrow) Boner, Mildred was born in Fredericktown November 9, 1919 and attended Butler High School.

As a young lady, Mildred hung wallpaper and painted.  She later worked at the Richland County Court House where she retired from the cleaning department.

She was a lifetime member of the VFW #9943 and was a former member of the Ontario Senior Citizens.  The oldest member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Mildred was a St. Mark’s quilter.  She enjoyed working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles.  Mildred loved to fish, even in her mid 90’s, she’d drive to Lake Erie for a day of fishing.

She is survived by her son Charles Smith of Mansfield; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; brother John F. Boner; daughter-in-law Charlotte Smith; son-in-law Richard Townsend; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Smith; son Louis Smith and daughter Mary Townsend; siblings Walter Boner, Ila M. Jewett, and William Boner.

Her family will receive friends Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 12 pm – 2 pm in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 2 pm.  Burial will follow in Ankenytown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Richland County Humane Society may be made through the funeral home.
