MANSFIELD: Merlyn L. (Blackburn) Blatter Hicks, 85, of Mansfield passed away peacefully, Tuesday April 19, 2016 at home.

The daughter of Earl and Madeline (McDanield) Blackburn, Merlyn was born June 19, 1930 in Mansfield and was graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1949.

Merlyn worked for the Spring Mill Furniture Barn and retired in 1996 after 26 years.

She was a 50 year member of Ruth Chapter #17 Ohio Eastern Star, and met monthly with friends from the Lunch Bunch Class of 1949.  Merlyn enjoyed flower gardening and dearly loved her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children Kay Detty, Linda (Darrell) Kissel, John (Nancy) Blatter, and Lorie (Garry) Guzzo all of Mansfield; step children Carl Hicks of Washington D.C., Debra (Donnie) Step of Columbus, and Rhonda Hicks of Mansfield; six grandchildren Chad (Jennifer) Peace, Jason Ross, Aaron (Holly) Blatter, Allyson (Chris) Powell, Stacie (Chris) Cowell and Brandy Barley; 10 great grandchildren.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Raymond Blatter, second husband Carl Hicks, Sr., brother Robert Harriman; step granddaughter Megan Hicks; son-in-law Allen Peace.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Merlyn Hicks will be held Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 3 p.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends two hours prior from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.  Pastor John Risner will officiate.
