Melvin “Mel” McComis Jr.

August 10, 1946 ‒ January 08, 2020

Cardington, Ohio

Melvin “Mel” McComis Jr., age 73, of Cardington, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, January 8, 2020, at his residence.

He was born on August 10, 1946, in Columbus, OH, to the late Granville M. Sr. and Christine (Hall) McComis.

Shortly after high school, Mel enlisted in the United Sates Marine Corps of which he was honorably discharge from.

While Mel was a jack of all trades, he really enjoyed teaching at the Delaware Area Career Center. His area of expertise was welding and was able to help many complete the Adult Education program at the center. If a student needed extra practice, he even went out of his way to let them come to his home shop for extra welding time.

With a love for the outdoors, Mel was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He also loved to farm and later would collect some of the model farm equipment needed. Mel was a man of faith and was proud to be saved. He also was a man of his word and always followed through what he would commit to. Mel was quiet, simple, man and will surely be missed.

Left to cherish his memory includes his wife, Bernice (Lewis) McComis whom he married on December 22, 1983; children: George (Rebecca Miller) McComis and Ginger McComis; grandchildren: Tammy, Jenna, Georgia, and Robert; sister, Elsie Marshall; and nephews: John and Doug Holcomb.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents.

Per Mel’s wishes, a private family service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with final expenses.
