Melvin Chapman, age 79, of Marion, died Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Marion Manor.  Melvin was born January 25, 1936 in Marion, Ohio to the late Thomas and Caroline (Griffith) Chapman.  Melvin graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1955.  After graduating, Melvin worked for the Erie Railroad and entered the Army for three years.  After returning home, Melvin worked for the Erie Railroad, Erie Lackawanna Railroad, and in 1982 retired from Conrail.  Melvin married Martha Harruff on April 21, 1983, she survives.  Melvin enjoyed maintaining and collecting clocks and gardening.  He will be deeply missed by his wife and children.

In addition to Martha, Melvin is survived by children, John (Lara) Chapman of Westerville, Ohio, Gary Henry of Marion, Sheila (Aaron) Roberts of Powell and Jane Warwick of Marion; 8 grandchildren, Crescent, Wake, Chance, Preston, Lauren, Megan, Josie, and Lydia; and sister, Dorothy Thomas.  He was predeceased by siblings, Phyllis Holloway, Thomas Chapman and Jim Chapman.
