Maxine Marie Walter

MANSFIELD~ Maxine Marie Walter, age 79 of Mansfield, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 5, 2009.
Born June 26, 1929, she was the second daughter of Paul and Hedwig (Tober) Selnau. She graduated from James Ford Rhodes High School in Cleveland in 1942.
On April 29, 1950, she married Donald C. Walter. They made their home in Cleveland and were active in the Brooklyn United Church of Christ. In 1966, they moved to Mansfield where Maxine worked as the Assistant to the President of North Central Technical College, retiring in 1996 after 28 years of service.
Maxine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Altrusa Club, and the Mansfield Sailing Club. She was active in third-grade classrooms in the Lexington Local School District. She volunteered and held office in the North Central Ohio Alzheimer’s Association. She enjoyed reading and was an excellent seamstress.
Maxine was a devoted wife and mother, fiercely proud grandmother, and a loyal and generous friend.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Holly Walter Kerby and Robert Kerby; her son Blake Walter; her granddaughters Claire and Anne Kerby, all of Madison, Wisconsin; her sister Delores Gainer of Parma; as well as innumerable friends.
Her husband Donald preceded her in death on November 12, 2005.
The Walter family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Parlor of First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, Mansfield, where the memorial service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Tony Minear will officiate.
The Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, 350 Marion Avenue (Former Finefrock Funeral Home) is honored to serve the family. Interment will be in Brooklyn Heights Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association may be made at the funeral home.
