Lexington, Ohio

LEXINGTON: Matthew Young, following a 22-month long courageous battle with liver cancer, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2020 from Lexington Court Care Center. He was 53.

He was born May 5 (Cinco de Mayo), 1967 in Mansfield to parents Thomas & Judy (Burling) Young. He graduated from Lexington High School and Pioneer, certified in small engine repair, with the class of 1985. After graduation, Matt worked at many different places doing many different jobs.

Matt enjoyed his time going to the Ohio Health and Fitness Center and seeing some of his friends there. He also really enjoyed riding his bike on the bike trail. If the sun was out, then Matt would typically be found doing something outside. From mowing the yard or doing some trimming, to putting some food out for birds in the backyard, he just enjoyed time outdoors. He had a love for high school sports and would collect newspaper clippings and programs from local sporting events. He enjoyed music, especially 70’s and 80’s music like Pink Floyd, Genesis and Sting. He knew a lot about music from this era and could even answer many questions about 70’s and 80’s music.

He is survived by mother Judy Young of Lexington; siblings Maria (Scott) Alfonsi of Bellville and Michael R. Young of Canton; five nieces Bethany (Solomon) Yang of Lenoir, NC, Leanna Alfonsi of Mansfield, Kayla (Elisha) Mickle of Canton, Lindsey (Dominique) Alfonsi of Mansfield, and Autumn (John) Payne of Tooele, UT; three great-nephews Judah Yang, Parker Yang, and Kaeleb Llamas; great-niece Serena Yang; numerous extended family.

Matt was preceded in death by his father Thomas Lee Young.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the nurses and aides at Lexington Court Care Center for the loving, special care they gave to Matt.

His family will receive friends 11am-12pm Thursday, July 30, 2020, in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a memorial service celebrating his life will begin immediately at 12 pm.
