Mary Louise Mathews Deckling

Mary Louise Mathews Deckling, age 65, of Bellville and formerly of Chesterville and Mt. Vernon, died late Monday evening, August 25, 2008, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born on October 21, 1942, in Galion, Ohio, the daughter of the late Emmitt and Blanche (Patrick) Mathews Hardy. Mary graduated from the Chesterville High School in the Class of 1960.

A homemaker, Mary enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family. Having a love for any and all arts and crafts, she enjoyed collecting trinkets and receiving pictures and letters from her family.

For several years, Mary worked as a telephone operator.

With a warm smile always ready to greet you, Mary was friendly with everyone. She had a “happy go lucky” way about her.

Always wanting to get dressed up, Mary loved wearing jewelry and bright colors everywhere she went. Every year, she would look forward to spreading Christmas cheer and enjoyed the holiday traditions.

She will be missed by her two children: William (Jennifer) Deckling of Marengo, and Linda (Brad) Hall of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren: Greg and Justin Deckling, and Lesley and Erin Hall; a brother, Clarence Mathews of Galion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Mathews; sister, Juanita Snyder; and life companion, Guy McPeek.

Graveside inurnment services will be held on Friday, August 29, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville, with Pastor Jeff Slider officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
