Mary L. Schnelker, 89, of Galion died Saturday, August 27, 2005 at Galion Community Hospital. She has been a resident of Magnolia Terrace Assisted Living Facility for over 3 years.

Born September 8, 1915 in Union County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Johnston and Orpha McPherson Johnston. She was preceded in death on March 2, 1989 by her husband, Joseph D. Schnelker whom she married on September 20, 1935.

She was a graduate of Galion High School 1933 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the church Sacristans. She was also a member of the Catholic Ladies of Columbia No. 206 and Galion Community Hospital Auxiliary T.W.I.G. 4. She was a secretary in the office of St. Joseph Catholic School for 18 years.

Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sister Mary Ann Schnelker, OSF, of Joliet, Ill., Barbara and Ed Schroeder of Dublin and Norma and Richard Metz of Mansfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Laura Schnelker of Millersburg and Richard and Cathy Schnelker of Galion; one son-in-law, Roger Laughbaum of Galion; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Margaret “Peggy” Laughbaum, one sister, Marjorie Bonen and one brother, Lawrence Johnston

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2005 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion with Rev. Michael Schelling officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

A Vigil Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Monday during calling hours with Deacon Al Sisson officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Parish; the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of Richardson-Davis Funeral Home, 218 S. Market St., Galion, OH 44833
