Mansfield, Ohio

MANSFIELD: Martha Jean (Ritzhaupt) Fraley, age 93, peacefully passed away early Monday morning, July 27, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Mansfield under the care of OhioHealth Hospice.

She was born July 11, 1927, in Lexington to parents Paul & Mabel (Ford) Ritzhaupt and was a 1945 graduate of Galion High School. She married Lawrence S. Fraley on February 7, 1948.

Martha worked 9 years as a seamstress at Don Clair Bridals from 1975-1985 and then worked as the food service manager for the Mansfield Masonic Temple from 1985 until her retirement in 1995. In younger years, Martha worked at JoAnn Fabrics which was a perfect fit for her love of sewing. She taught all her kids to sew and handmade almost all of their clothing. She had a special love for counted cross stitch and made a Christmas stocking for every single member of her family.

She enjoyed wintering with her husband in Florida for many years and made many fun memories on Pleasant Hill Lake in their pontoon boat. Above all, Martha cherished dancing with her husband Lawrence—especially square dancing—and playing card games with him including Euchre and Pinochle along with their family and friends.

Martha was a member of Ladies Shrine Club in Mansfield, the Baku Grotto Auxillary, and an honorary member of the Order of Kentucky Colonials.

She is survived by her daughters Maci Lelan (Murphy) Moultry of Arizona and Diana Deschner of Nevada, and Donita Fraley-Little of Mansfield; son Larry (Judy) Fraley of Mansfield; brothers Robert (Pat) Ritzhaupt of Washington and Wilbur Ritzhaupt of Mansfield; sister Marilyn Andrade of Washington; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence S. Fraley; infant daughter Sharon Kay Fraley; sons-in-law Douglas D. Deschner and Robert M. Little; brothers Arthur Ritzhaupt, Clarence Ritzhaupt, Edward Ritzhaupt; sister Erma Ritzhaupt; her parents Paul & Mabel (Ford) Ritzhaupt; and stepmother Ellen Ritzhaupt.

Her family will have a private graveside service 11:00 AM Friday, July 31, 2020, in Mansfield Cemetery officiated by Mr. Charles “Chuck” Carrier. Contributions in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children and sent to the funeral home (PO Box 3085, Mansfield OH 44904) or made online at
