NAPLES, FL: Marshall Duane Smith, 93, of Naples Florida and formerly of Mansfield passed away Thursday February 25, 2016 in Avow Hospice House in Naples, Florida.

Marshall was born June 27, 1922, in Mansfield to the late Hazel and George Smith.  After his graduation from Mansfield Senior High School in 1940, he attended Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1947, after interrupting his education to serve three years in the US Army in Europe.

He then joined his father at the Mansfield Printing Co. as Vice President.  He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church, the American Legion, VFW, was a 32nd degree mason, and actively served on many community boards.

In 1949 he married Evelyn Art who survives him.  In 2009 they retired to Naples, Florida where they had vacationed many times.  He is survived by their four children Mark Smith of Troy, New York, Bradley (Nancy) Smith of Glendale, Arizona, Laurie (Steve) Selvey of Tiffin, Ohio and Lisa (Barry) Paul of Naples, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Nancy (Ramon) Fidler; sister-in-law Lillian McGinty, brother-in-law Dr. Edward Ardt and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Fox, a brother-in-law David McGinty and sister-in-law Betty Ardt.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 3, 2016 from 12pm – 1pm in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 1pm.  Military Honors performed by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will follow on the funeral home grounds.  Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the First English Lutheran Church, 53 Park Ave. West, Mansfield, Ohio or The Salvation Army may be made through the funeral home.

    I look at your dad’s photo and I see the light of Jesus, the warm smile of a loving dad, the devoted husband and that beautiful infectious smile that you have inherited. Laurie I wish I could be with you during this time of mourning but I know there will be a time soon when we will listen to you tell us what a great dad you have and some of your fondest memories and we will rejoice together. His life sounds like a life to celebrate. Take comfort in knowing your dad is resting in Jesus warm embrace.
