Margaret F. Miley, age 95, of Marion and formerly of Mount Gilead, died late on Monday evening, May 19, 2008, at the Marion General Hospital.
She was born in Morrow County, on January 2, 1913, the daughter of the late Howard and Tamar Luella Kelly Kunze. Margaret graduated from the Iberia High School in the Class of 1931.
After attending Ohio Northern University for two years, Margaret received her teaching certificate and began her 27 year elementary teaching career in Radnor Schools.
In 1937, she transferred to the Marion City Schools, where she would continue to take summer classes and earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the Ohio State University.
In 1948, Margaret married Arthur Boggs and for the next seven years enjoyed being a full-time housewife. Following Arthur’s death, she would resume her passion of teaching in Mansfield Schools.
After her marriage to Oscar Miley in 1962, Margaret taught at Cardington for the next nine years until her retirement in 1972. Unfortunately Oscar died in 1971.
With an energetic and giving spirit, Margaret was active in numerous community organizations. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher. She volunteered at the Morrow County Hospital as a member of the Bluebell Twig, and was active in the Morrow County Historical Society, the county Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Association of University and its book club.
A talented artist, Margaret was a charter member of the former Morrow County Art Guild. She also enjoyed painting, quilling, and calligraphy.
Margaret will be missed by her three step children: Malcom (Jean) Boggs of New York, Russell (Janis) Miley of Marion, and Evelyn Seitter of Prospect; eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Betty Kunze of Mount Gilead; and nephews: Val (Velma) and Verlton Kunze
Including her first and second husbands and parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her 2 step-sons Richard and Cecil Miley; and her brother, Lester Kunze.
Her family will greet friends on Thursday from 5– 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mt. Gilead. Services celebrating her life will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 55 North Cherry Street, Mount Gilead with Rev. Dennis Braun officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercliff Cemetery.
