Mandy “Margaret” Chapin Thomas, age 84 of Delaware died Sunday, January 11, 2009 at Wintersong Village Nursing Facility.

She was born in White Sulfur on December 2, 1924 to the late Stephen and Anna (Fortuna) Chapin. One of eight graduates in the Bellpoint Class of 1943, she was a lifelong resident. A homemaker, she was gifted in the kitchen and wonderful baker, known for her famous cinnamon rolls.

An active member of St. Mary Church, she sang in the funeral choir for many years. For over 35 years she golfed at Hidden Valley Golf Course in their summer league. She loved people, cats, and all animals, and also enjoyed music. Margaret was an artist, specializing in the medium of oils with floral subjects.

She was most proud of her marriage of 61 years to her cherished husband; Robert L. Thomas, who survives. Together they shared a wonderful life and took care of each others needs.

She is also survived by her sister: Donna Starr of Newark, niece Brenda Jude of Lexington, nephews Tim and Steven Starr of Newark, a host of caring friends.

Preceded in death by brother Anthony S. Chapin in 1958.

Friends may call Wednesday 5-7:00 p.m., prayer services 7:00 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St. (SR 36), Delaware. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 Thursday at St. Mary Church, with Rev. James Black and Rev. Kevin Kavanagh Co-celebrants. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
