Mamie L. Hickson, age 81 of rural Marengo passed away Friday evening, October 5, 2012 at Morrow County Hospital.

She was born on October 13, 1930 in Huntington, WV to the late Jack and Nellie (Slack) Vernett and was a lifelong resident of Delaware and Morrow Counties.

For 25 years she worked as an LPN with Morning View Care Center in Fulton. A job she considered her life calling. Forever the care giver, she continued practice sharpen her skills into her 80’s. Kind, loving, and spunky in her own way, she was the constant nurturer.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, she loved the Lord and was a member of Alum Creek Friends Evangelical Church and at one time the Stantontown Advent Christian Church. Mamie also participated in Ventures Senior Citizen Group in Marengo as well as the Stanton Home Mission. With a constant song in her heart she had wonderful voice and loved to sing. An avid NASCAR fan, she followed Jeff Gordon, also the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cincinnati Reds. She enjoyed her cats, and treasured time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her family put it best, she was awesome.

She is survived by children: Patricia “Pat” (Dick) Clark and Robert Hickson both of Cardington, Nancy (Larry) Rossiter of Marengo, Peggy (Howard) Slade of Cardington, Penny (Charles) Pennypacker of Ashley, and step-daughter: Susie (Mike) Crotty, 11 Grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 45 years: Russell, who died in 1995, son Roger, step-son Michael, and sisters: Mary Henry and Jackie Cole.

Friends may call Sunday 4-8 p.m. at the Bennett, Brown, Rodman & Snyder Funeral Home in Ashley, where services will be held Monday 11:00 with Pastor Keith Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in Stantontown Cemetery.
